Moonshot is a data analytics company tackling online harms, and is part of the Beringea U.K. portfolio. Founded in London in 2015 by Vidhya Ramalingam and Ross Frenett, it was originally focused on countering violent extremism and terrorism. It now designs technologies and methodologies to counter a wider variety of online harms.
The two founders of Moonshot are leading experts on terrorism and have been recognised as global leaders in the industry. Vidhya has headlined SXSW and TED, she regularly advises the FBI, Department of Defense, and she has testified before the US Congress. Similarly, Ross is often called to advise the CIA, the White House and the United Nations. He also led the creation of the first open-source counter-terrorism methodology.
Misinformation started spreading online rapidly in 2010, and reached a peak in the past few years as conspiracies about the COVID-19 pandemic started appearing. Moonshot works with clients including Facebook, Google, the Department of Homeland Security, the State Department, and the UK's Home Office to tackle the growth of threats online and "end online harms". Moonshot was named among Fast Company's most innovative security companies of 2022.
